Sure it's not a deli or a traditional taco/mexican joint. But ETS has it's own thing going on and I kind of like it to be honest. Firstly it's open until the wee hours in the AM and that for me is more than a selling point. Secondly, the staff is very friendly. Lastly, the food is amazing! I've come here both after a night of libation and stone cold sober. I can now say that alcohol was not an influence on my palette. Tacos are fresh, enchiladas are delicious, burritos are HUGE and worth the $ we pay. One of the best places for a late night bite, hands down!

My order: fries supreme (it was okay) PRO: + Quick service. They're pretty fast and efficient at whizzing people through the line (& I went on Cinco de mayo) CONs: - PRICE: for the price I paid, I was expecting to be blown away. Sadly, I was not. Now, I'm definitely one for quality ingredients and supporting local businesses but not so far as to compromise taste. Taco Bell, though a quick and low-quality eat, has more yummy fries supreme. Yes, I did just say that. When I brought my leftovers home, I lathered them in sauce to make them more nommy. And just for the record, being the amateur cook that I am, I hate doing that. So yeah...maybe I'm just not a taco person.

I've been enjoying every bite of every ETS taco I have purchased for 27 years now and I still remember eating my first ETS taco because I was prego and it was the only thing I could eat! With ETS... You either like their tacos or you don't, personally, I love them! First thing you need to know is that the sauce on their ground beef is spicy as all Hell! I always order mild and on some days I swear my taste buds are convinced it's medium level hot/spicy. Next thing you need to know is that you need to go in there with an open mind and prepare yourself for a fast food experience not quite like any other. I can't even compare ETS to fast food joints like Taco Bell or Might Taco because they're not even the same caliber fast food! ETS is special, the other two places definitely are not! There's lots of pepper on the chicken and beef for their tacos/fajitas/burritos. I have never tried their beans and probably never will, I always order beef and cheese because the lettuce and tomato end up hot and soggy like it was microwaved and I very much dislike hot, soggy lettuce and tomato. While I'm not a fan of waffle fries, I know lots of people who love them from here. They also have some plump juicy chicken wings that are pretty good. Of their subs, I've tried two (ham/cheese & steak/cheese Philly) and really didn't enjoy them. If you're looking for a sub, I suggest trying another spot like Jim's Steak Out across the street. They also have a ginormous chocolate cookie available that always makes my son extremely happy, he says they're delicious but I wouldn't know. I've brought people from out of town to visit ETS for the first time and they have all loved the tacos and burritos! This place is open super late and has a drive through now (newly added when they changed locations because the place use to be a Burger King I believe). Anyway, enjoy!

If I could be drunk every time I came here this would be an easy 5 star. The menu options alone are a drunks dream. The mix of Mexican, subs fingers and delicious waffle fries definitely hit the spot. I did stop by yesterday for a quick dinner and grabbed the #1 combo, a couple tacos with waffle fries and small pop. The tacos were average, nothing remarkable about them. The fries were good, crispy outside with a soft center. Overall the meal was what you would expect from a "fast food caliber" restaurant. I would recommend the fingers to someone they are pretty decent. The big cookie looks awesome but is a little dry. I think if you threw it in the microwave first it would help the taste.

There are lots of tacos along Elmwood on a Friday and Saturday night, and a lot of them, if you get to know them, will turn out to be subs. That's all I'm saying. I wasn't supposed to like Elmwood Taco. I mean I think Taco Bell is the worst fast food chain there is, and that the local version (Mighty Taco) is inexplicably but undeniably worse. I would honestly rather run to the bathroom than eat Mighty Taco, which is funny because on the odd occasion I have eaten Mighty Taco, I ended up doing both. So late one night I noticed this hopping little joint on the Elmwood Strip. I mean, they're doing so well for themselves peddling their $2 Buffalo-style tacos that they have hired their own security guard, who kindly told me where the bathroom was. So I procured myself a taco... and then another... and before I knew it... I was raving about them. No, they're nothing special. They're not that different to MT or TB and that's the crazy part. Similar style, but just so much better in taste and texture and freshness, that to me, there is no comparison. And that is how, ladies and gentlemen, you can have a chain be similar to 2 other chains in many ways, and yet this one scores the maximum rating, whereas the others score the minimum. And where else (without going to the aforementioned two) can you get something yummy and dirt cheap at 3am? Not too many places in this region, is the answer. So if you like your tacos to be subs, or just want a few cheap quick easy tacos that taste dirty and delicious, but at least look clean and cute, then this is your destination.

The subs are good, but they're kind of pricey. I had a turkey sub and my boyfriend had a turkey club sub. They were big and fresh and the club had lots of fresh cooked bacon. But, at nearly $8.00 a sub... and considering they charged an extra 75 cents for hot peppers... there are better choices. I think I'll go back and try a taco before I take them off my list.

Always great tacos!! The wait was a little long (15 mins) for 4 tacos and chips n cheese but worth the wait. The shells were crunchy and fresh! Chips were light and tasty.

I'm not a huge fan of fast food, but when it's time for fast food, I want a place that's 1) local and 2) has a drive-through. ETS fits the bill. The food is certainly not fancy, but it's much better than your typical Mexican-America fast food--and there are plenty of vegetarian options. If you're into the "Subs" part of the name, you should know however, that you have to walk inside (yep, you actually have to extract yourself from that bucket seat) to order sandwiches. The drive through is tacos-only territory. That said, the subs are good--and they often have specials that are bargain-priced. My big kudos comes to them for offering whole black beans on their tacos, burritos, and even the taco salad. Vastly more appealing that refried (and for us vegetarians, less likely to be infused with animal fat).

What can I say? As soon as my plane lands in Bflo, I head straight to ETS for extra extra hot tacos. There is nothing else like it. Love ETS!!

2 co-workers and I ordered tacos. I ordered a chicken taco mild. I bite in the taco and it's dry NO sauce at all. I called, with the receipt and gave the guy the order # 618. He comes back and says he made it himself and asked "what's the problem " I said it's dry he says since I ordered a mild taco they don't put sauce on it because they only have hot sauce. If a p w rson orders a medium they put a small amount of hot sauce I'd they want hot the put a lot of hot sauce. I asked about mild sauce he said they don't have any but I can order salsa. I said this isn't a taco. No other place that I've ordered a taco from, from Halifax to tijuana and tons of cities in between including Jim's across the street from them put sauce on a taco. He argued and I hung up. Now I know and won't be back. Beside this isn't the first time I've has mediocre food from them. I didn't think anyone could mess up a taco.

Not a bad place to stop for some quick food on the Elmwood Strip. This is without a doubt one of those places like Jim's Steakout where people love to come for some greasy comfort food after a night out of drinking. I went here the other night (Friday night) around 9 PM and service was pretty slow and they were steady busy but not super busy at all. So far I've only had their tacos, burritos, and waffle fries. I don't care what anyone says this place does not hold a candle to Mighty Taco. Their medium taco and burrito sauce is pretty spicy! Burritos come with meat and sauce only, no vegetables. Waffle fries were just the right amount of crispy. So again the food is not bad but I personally just like Mighty Taco a lot better than here and the service here can be slow for a place serving "fast" food. Nonetheless this place has been an Elmwood icon since the 70s so its here to stay for the long haul.

Waffle fries are quite possibly the best side item available to the late night crowd. Should I find myself hungry enough, I'd stop simply for a bag of these flavor beauties. ETS is clean and well-lit. That's a heads up if you're staggering out of Goodbar at 4AM on Friday. ETS has late night hours til 5 AM on Fridays and Saturdays, and are open til midnight during the rest of the week. ETS is one of a few late night taco joints, with Jim's across the street. ETS has a fairly broad menu, try the rice bowl supreme (5.60). Rice bowl contains white rice, black beans, refried beans, olives, cheese, sour cream, and optional salsa (go for the salsa, and get it hot). Burritos are solid, if not spectacular. I went with a beef burrito (hot, $3.00) and wasn't disappointed. But the waffle fries - get those. Thinly sliced, potato pocket perfection. Love those.

I went to ETS after telling a friend that I was craving a chimichanga, and she said they have really great ones. She wasn't wrong! The chimichanga itself has a great savory and spicy flavor profile, and the crispy tortilla gave a great texture. Also got enchiladas, they were just as flavorful as the chimichangas. Enchiladas get baked though, so they had more of a mushy texture than the chimichanga. I prefer chimichangas for the different textures, personally.

After hearing about the battle between Lloyd's and ETS, I was very eager to try ETS. I told myself, while walking in, that I was going to be fair, unbiased and open minded when it came to eating at and reviewing ETS. After a quick look at the menu, I decided on the first special, 2 tacos, nachos, and a drink. I got one beef taco, and one bean taco, both plain with no hot sauce and both soft shell. I was going to get chicken until I saw that the chicken tacos cost twice as much as the beef. Ouch. While waiting, I took a quick look around and noticed that out of the 10 other customers, not a single person had a taco or sub. I laughed to myself while thinking they should change their name to Elmwood Chicken Fingers. When my order finally came I was excited to try it! I took a couple of bites of the beef taco and a couple of bites of the bean. I noticed that both were so spicy! I have no spice pallet and needed a large drink after every bite. I also noticed the sliced cheese. That just screams processed. Even Taco Bell uses shredded cheeses. The beef was similar to Taco Bell's and probably could barely be called beef. The bean was pretty good but reminded me of the can of refried beans I usually have as a side for taco dinner night. Nothing seemed super fresh and flavorful. Drunk Kaylynn would probably enjoy these though. I only ate half of my bean taco and probably about 75% of the beef before tossing them. The nachos were as to be expected. But again, the dipping cheese was very spicy. I only ate about half of these too. It was sad to say that the only thing I enjoyed was my small Pepsi. I drank the whole thing. A huge pet peeve of mine that dropped the review down to 2 stars was that while I was eating, an employee was mopping the floor. I was asked to move so he could get under my table and chairs. Mind you, I was about 5 min from leaving anyways but I guess the guy couldn't wait. Very rude.

Oh me oh my, off to ETS I went after a series of beverages and a very very long night. They are conveniently open quite late, until 5 am on the weekends and with a drive thru, oh it's just too easy. Even at 3 in the morning the girls working the drive thru were SUPER friendly and helpful in helping us decide what to order. Came with friends, went with an array of food including the chicken supreme taco and a veggie supreme taco. Not healthy choices, the veggie supreme was dripping with some cheesy something or other, oy vey, it was not my best decision. IN THE MOMENT HOWEVER, holy mackerel it was delicious. Delicious, sinful and cheap. SO cheap. I would not come here sober, this is strictly food that will make you feel guilty in the morning. Nothing a little (LOT) of cardio can't erase.

If you're 18 and stoned, it's probably really good. I ordered the wings (got fingers) and supreme nachos. The meat tastes weird on the nachos. It comes in s small pizza box and covered in cheese. Can't really eat it. The fingers are well, medium fingers. I'd say mighty taco is better- and I'm not a huge mighty taco fan. Go across the street to Jim's

When I first walked into ETS, I was amazed by their long menu wall of possible food items. I also noticed how expensive everything seemed to be. Price is something that I don't mind if the quality is worth it, and I don't think ETS' food is worth their price. This isn't to say that their food is in anyway bad, it's just not worth the ridiculous price that they slap onto each item. I usually get the chicken burrito, which pretty much consists of chicken, cheese, and the burrito wrap. The basics. But it costs $4.00 and some change. There isn't even rice, or lettuce, or anything! If it was a big burrito, that'd be one thing, but one burrito is hardly enough to fill anyone up, so you end up buying two. As I said, the food isn't terrible. When I do eat here, I usually end up enjoying my food and thinking it was pretty good. But then I think about how much I spent and the dreary, regretful feeling comes back. Eat here if you have to, but there are better alternatives around the area, in my opinion.

Let's be clear: I come here when I am drunk, hungover or in a serious bind. The two best items on their menu are the waffle fries (order them with nacho cheese AND blue cheese for a delightful indulgence) and the big cookie. Sometimes after a really bad day, I will shamefully order both of them and enjoy their splendor as I watch the Real Housewives and contemplate how many glasses of wine I can put away in one sitting. Regardless, the rest of their menu isn't very good. Their burritos are overpriced and I personally do not like their hot sauce. It has a very strong black pepper taste. Even ordering something with medium heat is still really overpowering, and this is coming from someone who puts hot sauce on EVERYTHING. However, eating at ETS does have some perks. For instance, it's one of the only establishments in the area with a drive thru. Don't feel like getting out of your car on your lunch break? ETS is the answer. Although their drive thru menu is limited, it is nice to have the option. If you do make that extra effort to go inside (and you need to feed a crowd), try out the Mexican pizza or the loaded waffle fries. Both menu items are covered in about 8 lbs of cheese, which will inevitably make you and your friends feel warm, fuzzy and happy. Just don't think about the calories. For a fast food joint, this place is actually very nice on the inside and the food is consistently A-OK. I'll always be glad that ETS is in walking distance from my house so I can get my fry and cookie fix whenever I am depressed and/or intoxicated.

I used to come here once or twice a week after class (yikes!) until a few weeks ago when I switched up my normal order to a chicken fajita and ended up with food poisoning. I usually order two beef tacos. I came back today and got my usual, without any issues as of yet! The only complaint I had is that the beef was unusually greasy today, but it was still good. Lol. The staff here are always very friendly although the one guy that's usually on the drive thru is creepily flirtatious! That's enough to steer me away most days!

The beef tacos and the supreme burrito was pretty good. Avoid the nachos supreme it was okay.

  • Patty C.

My roommate and I decided to stop by thinking it has to have atleast decent food, we were proven wrong. This place is expensive! I paid 8$ for nachos... The nachos was mixed with beef and little vegetables , topped with cheap cheese. My roommate ordered fries with cheese, the fries were the best out of the meal but still not worth it.. The worst was her burrito, it was basically topped with LOTS of lettuce and two slices of tomato for 4$.. I was hesitant to get a burrito because on the sides it said it charges .70 cents extra for sour cream rice and cheese. If the burrito doesn't come with rice or cheese, you know it's not a burrito worth buying. Won't ever come back to this place.

This place was so good when it first opened and now its just OK. Good: Clean Open all the time Busy all the time but you just always seem to luck out on a seat Waffle fries (taste and quantity and quality) sometimes they are too salted though Pasta salad Brownie OK: Chicken tender subs Bad: Quality of the lettuce, wraps, etc. Its Mighty Taco quality without MT prices So overall: I'll come here again but its not the bee's knees.

ETS is the BEST...... I've been patronizing ETS for over 20 years BEST Tacos and Wings in town!!!!!! I Love all of their food choices Tacos/Burritos, Chicken Fingers/Wings, Subs, Mexican Pizza, Salad, and Brownies/Cookies. I buy their Diablo Hot Sauce for home use. The Tacos are spicy and I order mine Hot with Jalepeno Peppers and Sour Cream. The Wings are crispy and saucy...... Brownies can be split between 2-4 people that's how big they are and Sooooo Delicious!!!!!! Also, they serve Pepsi Products not the ENEMY!!!!!!!! Lastly, this is the Cleanest Restaurant on Elmwood with full lighting!!!!!! "Happy"Eating at ETS

I came with the family after the bidwell farmers market. I may be biased, having lived near Mexico most of my life, but I would stay away from anything Mexican here if you are looking for authenticity. On the bright side the subs and fries are amazing. We had the Philly Cheese sandwich and loved every cheesy meaty moment! A local who comes a lot said the turkey sub was out if this world! A good quick cheapish way to feed the family!

Stopped in late to have a bite with friends. Ordered their tacos hot, and they were delicious!!!! I love 45 miles away, but willing to drive back here to have their stuff! Definitely prefer them over Mighty Taco!!

    (5)
  • Thom D.

I heart the beef and black bean burrito. It cost more than a burrito at Mighty, and I don't care. The thing just tastes good, and there is no mystery beef. And whole black beans. Not too sloppy, not too dry, and one does the trick. But Thommy, why only 4 stars? Well, the chips are seasoned way too much. After eating them, my ankles swelled up like Hillary's. I like Hillary, but she doesn't have the nicest pins, ya know? To salty for me. But the beef and bean burrito... Mmm!

    (4)
  • Christopher C.

No bueno. ETS is too expensive for what you get, the quality of what you get, and the fact that it pretends to be a taco. I'm not being a purist here, but tacos are supposed to have flavor and texture, both of which are easily found when one uses good ingredients. But ETS seems to be okay with a very fast food mentality - and hey, it is a fast food place. But if you're hungry for fast food, do yourself a favor and get it at another one of the copious places on Elmwood. You might be happier in the long run.

  • Marie L.

Service can be slow at times but the food is pretty solid. Waffle fries are always great, I tried a chicken quesadilla this week and it was delicious & filling. I've had the wings before too and they were good. Love their hot sauce! It's so damn spicy and delicious. ETS is perfect for a quick bite, especially for those middle of the night/drunk cravings on weekends.

  • Danni D.

I got the chicken supreme and it had about 5 small pieces of chicken. It was mostly retried beans and made me feel full after only a few bites. My friends got the beef tacos, they asked for no sauce (since we don't enjoy spicy food) and the beef was crazy spicy anyways. They couldn't even eat the tacos. Only good thing was the waffle fries, although they were very salty. The giant chocolate chip cookie was great.

    (2)
  • Vinca M.

Food is overpriced for what it is. If you go to the drive-thru, your chances of actually getting what you ordered are slim - out of five times using the drive-thru, we got exactly what we ordered ONCE. They charge extra for sour cream. I'd much rather have Mighty Taco. We end up going back to this place because it's so close to where we live, and we always think 'surely this time they won't screw up the order' but then they always do!

    (2)
  • Joe Y.

I would give this 3 stars with the exception of the waffle fries. These are some of the best fries you will find anywhere! The prices are KIND of high but not ridicolous. My usuals are whole black bean burritos and beef tacos. I like the hot sauce and you can buy your own bottle. It is very unique tasting, so it is not for everyone. The burritos are good on a good day but I have had many off days where there were barely any beans and it tasted like I was eating a tortilla with hot sauce. A great place to go after drinking some adult beverages, but if you eat a lot of the hot sauce be prepared to make best friends with the porcelain throne the next day. Right across from Jim's it is a nice option to have especially since Zetti's is closed now...Subs/fries or tacos/fries? Many more options if you eat in rather than drive thru also. I will continue to go here when I want some burritos because Mighty is too far from my apartment and it's the only drive thru in the entire area...so on a lazy day it seems even better.

  • Sarah H.

My husband and I love ETS- we have been going there for years. It is nice to have vegetarian options at a drive thru in Buffalo. I love their rice bowl supreme. It is the cleanest fast food restaurant in the city!

  • Andrew W.

Bleh, we were the only people in there and the wait was incredibly long. My buddy got a chicken finger sub, which was good, but my taco was super peppery... not , "oh hey, this is a spicy taco" but more, "I think the pepper grinder broke". Why not just go to the Jim's across the street?

  • Lindsay A.

It wasn't inedible, but it was just blase` and nothing special... I ordered 2 chicken tacos and chips with cheese along with a drink. The total was like $15!!! The chicken tacos were boring and plain. Sliced chicken with some cheese and lettuce. Meh. The chips came in a HUGE bag (I really wanted 1 serving with some cheese, a la Mighty), and the drink was super small. I can't believe I spent $15 on a completely unsatisfying and mediocre meal. This is another place that leaves me scratching my head. For those that love it, I don't get it at all... And I think I got sick from something... Yuck.

Just got home from getting some drive thru ETS. Ordered 3 tacos with no tomatoes and a chicken burrito. Got home to find all my tacos having tomatoes and no burrito at all. This is the third time in a row the face tattoo kid messed up my order. I can overlook it a few times but he in particular seems to do it on purpose. Had a good run with ETS but I'll take my business elsewhere from now on. Service has gone way down there in the past year.

My favorite wings in town. They lightly bread them. It's to die for. The waffle fries are great too. That's all I ever get there. And the prices are reasonable.

Stopped in here on St. Paddy's day for beef tacos and pinto bean burritos. They packed some extra tasty spicy hot sauce for me. The food really hit the spot and had great entertainment since it was packed with drunks. I like the way they spice their beef.

Pretty expensive for the quality you get. BUT, still good when there's no where else to go. I do like their nachos and cheese and overall I think their tacos are good. Worth going to if there's nothing else to eat.

I would never come here for a "serious dining experience". With that said, this is my go-to-late-night-after-drinking-when-I'm-hungry-spot. It couldn't be more conveniently placed; you can usually catch it on your way to another spot, home, out of the city, etc. Their tacos are just perfectly sized. Not overwhelming, but also don't leave you still feeling famished. Their waffle fries are a must try and my favorite. It's quick, easy, convenient (drive thru), and great if you just want something quick on the way home after a night out. Again, don't plan a lunch or dinner date here and be totally unimpressed. But if you don't want to frequent the typical late night spot (Jim's) try here.

  • Dan H.

Let's face it, you are not going to find "real" Mexican at a place that also serves subs...at least I've never experienced it. That being said, I am a fan of this restaurant. On the occasions that I have eaten at ETS, my expectations have been met. The food is good. The facility is clean. The service is friendly. Those who opine for real Mexican at this establishment, I am sure will have their expectations totally shattered when they go to the Olive Garden looking for real Italian.

I used to go here back on college about 10 years ago but I can't anymore....I revisited this place after just moving back to the area, and I was barely able to finish them....Now I am a person who likes hot and spicy, but the seasoning in those tacos has wayyyyyyyyy to much pepper in them....It's overwhelming....I cannot return....It's too bad because I like ground beef tacos on the go but just can't eat these.... I will say the place was clean.

I've been going to ETS for years and absolutely love it. I strongly recommend the mexican pizza, waffle fries, chicken wings, chicken finger sub, and their ground beef tacos. Their chocolate chip cookies are MASSIVE and delicious and should probably be eaten by at least 3 people! I love that the place is always spotless inside, unlike Jim's across the street which is typically pretty filthy. Their prices are spot on and now that they have a drive thru I don't need to even get out of the car during the winter!

I have such mixed emotions about this place. The joint is a great asset to the neighborhood, and is a fine replacement for the Burger King that had been here for ages. I'm happy they are here, they take great care of the building which is always clean and well manicured. The ordering system is a bit convoluted and always backed up. As a result, every time I go, my order is wrong. Whenever I point this out, there is no apology, they just fix it, and on to the next thing. The food is good, but it's not cheap by Buffalo standards, and while it is of decent quality, the menu hasn't changed much in the last decade or so. Be especially careful if you are a vegetarian, as often meat seems to sneak its way into things. If you are a picky eater or have food allergies, be sure to check the food carefully before you eat it.

I really do like this place. Elmwood Taco and Subs is a cheap, fun place to have some tacos. The wait is never usually long and the food comes out quick once you order. Even though it is right in the busy area of Elmwood it always has available seating. The food is just alright but I mean it is cheap so that is to be expected. Also, there is always parking available on Bidwell right down the street (I would avoid the parking lot). Every time I have gone here I have had a good time. You should try it out and see what YOU think. Especially if you're a person who likes good drunk people food on a late Friday or Saturday night.

ETS' menu is made of fast-food remixes of favorite Buffalo fare. Half of it is devoted to subs, with unique Buffalo offerings like the chicken finger sub and fried bologna. The other half features a long list of Buffa-remixed Mexican food. The enchiladas taste kind of like a lasagna might if marketed by Chef Boyardee, and, well, I'm not sure which culture would care to claim the tuna taco as their own. Food anthropologists studying Buffalo's cuisine should definitely visit Elmwood Taco & Subs, but the rest of the city's population would be better off going elsewhere. After all, the place has "Elmwood" in the name -- and Elmwood village contains the highest number of tasty (and reasonably-priced) restaurants per capita of any neighborhood. Not just high end ones, either -- Ashker's healthy fare is dirt cheap and incredibly delicious, Dolci's savory menu is mostly under $10, and Globe Market does takeout deli food far better. ETS might be able to up the ante by increasing the quality of their meats, which is the determining factor for my dismissal. Ground beef in everything. Yuck. If it took some cues from health-oriented chains, doing what other local restos might not be able to do -- i.e. get competitive pricing on a higher volume of organic meats and sell them for lower prices, offer gluten-free items, etc. -- it might be able to compete. But for now, my advice is to drive -- or better yet, walk -- elsewhere. Sorry, ETS.

Been eating at ETS for 20 years. Their burritos are a favorite, and the hot sauce is HOT, which is great. It is always perfectly clean. Their subs and other sides are good as well. Sort of miss the old location on the corner though.

Go with chicken fingers and waffle fries. Avoid the taco salads and "supremes" like a lonely night in Juarez.

waffle fried are good, and their fake nacho cheese (you know the kind im talking about) is bomb I'd give an extra star if it were cheap here. but for the price range i'd rather have jims also i'd like more veggies on my burritos please!!!!

Nothing to complain about here, been turning out great decent food in Buffalo as long as I can remember. Always has had the MOST HOT HOT sauce ever, protect your starfish. All the combo meals are reasonably priced. The waffle fries are pretty damn dericious, however make sure you consume them all, not so good the next day like their burritos, fajitas, subs, and what else have you.

I recommend that you GO ACROSS THE STREET TO JIM'S! I took my son and his friend for lunch. It was busy, but not mobbed. We placed our order, nothing exotic, 2 sub combos and a half a turkey sub. After about 30 minutes, it became apparent that something was up, as we still had no food. After checking on the order, we were told that they "forgot it". Ok, so order resubmitted. Another 10 minutes, and a bunch of other orders come out. Still no food. Another trip to the counter. Annoyed employee (manager?) tells me it's coming. After 45 minutes, we finally get the food. Another trip to the counter as they forgot the fries. A fourth trip to get napkins, as there are none out in the dining area, and they didn't provide any. The best I can say about the food is that it's edible. I barely got an apology. No effort was made to attempt to make our miserable experience better. So, lousy service, and just "edible" food. Try Jim's. :)

Expect mediocrity when you come to ETS. I've never severely liked nor disliked any of the sandwiches here, and I've had some really good and really bad experiences with the faux Mexican food here. The burritos are pretty decent, at least some of the time, it seems to differ depending on who's making them. The chicken you can add to the burrito is weird though. It tastes kind of fake, and not in a good way. I also tried their chimichanga and it was probably the worst chimichanga I've ever had in my life. I felt like I was eating something that was frozen and then heated up in the microwave. It sucks that Buffalo doesn't really have that many Mexican options. I have yet to find a decent burrito place besides Lloyd's.

Even a star is too generous ... I am actually scratching my head wondering how all these individuals before me have given this place a decent rating. Over the weekend, the mother and I found ourselves in downtown Buffalo near UB. It was pouring rain and we were starving so we went into the first restaurant that we saw. Initially, I was expecting great things from this establishment as it looked trendy and relatively clean. I ordered the chicken quesadilla (which was an additional $2 because it contained chicken) and the mother ordered the chicken sub. ETS is supposedly a 'fast food' joint; however, their understanding of the word 'fast' obvi differs from the understanding of myself and the rest of society. Fifteen minutes later, our meal was ready. I was standing at the counter ready to take the tray of food, but the employee demanded that I show him the receipt. Now I would not include this detail had it not been the fact that the mother and I were the ONLY patrons here. We opened two paper bags, which were the size of two regular size duffel bags and took out our food. Both orders were completely disgusting and to this day I am perplexed as to how this place can continue running. Definitely a skip!!

Okay ETS, you've got me. The first time I came here it was for a proper dinner and I was not pleased. But a couple weeks ago I found myself out on elmwood, late at night, with a grumbling stomach. I didn't want Jim's but I needed nourishment. The inside of this place is really clean and tidy which makes me feel better about eating fast food. They have subs (chicken finger on the menu- of course) along with some tex-mexy dishes. I ordered black bean taco and it was actually quite decent. Nothing crazy here but nothing mouth-wateringly delicious. A perfectly acceptable place to cure your drunchies.

Been going here since a friend of mine turned me on to it at least 15 yrs ago. Every time I get back in town, I make a point of eating at ETS at least once! Their mild tacos are at least a medium at Mighty! Place is divey but CLEAN. Also, they took an old Burger King (ICK!!!) location & turned it into a privately owned biz -- I like that!!

    (4)
  • Bob S.

Does this place know what mild is? My 7 year old neice loves tacos, but even plain is to spicey for her and alot of people. Other than that, what are you gonna do go to mighty taco and eat that crap?

  • Jess O.

Can't figure out why anyone likes this place other than location. I couldn't bring myself to give it one star only because I didn't actually have a taco so perhaps those are better. My SigO and I stopped by this place and ordered a taco salad and a burrito. First off, you know its a bad sign when you can't tell whether the meat is real or ersatz. We actually thought maybe it was a vegan restaurant with fake meat for a while because neither the beef nor chicken looked like real meat. Some of the pieces of chicken were minced and then formed (looked like tofu). None of the food had very good flavor. Pretty disappointing. The taco shell for the salad tasted stale. As said above, mild salsa is not very mild. We also couldn't resist order one of those humongous cookies. For $3.50, you can get the biggest chocolate chip cookie I have ever seen. Three days later and I still haven't finished it. BUT it's not very good, just big. Decor is uninspiring. It's cool that they have a drive-through.

Wow their Mexican pizza is the best pizza I ever tried. 3-4 people can eat from it. Very delicious!

Going into the restaurant I had mixed expectations because one of my friends couldn't wait to get there it was "sooo good" and then I read all the bad reviews on yelp. So I was confused. So I went in and ordered a chicken and beans supreme and my husband a beef burrito both with wheat wraps. When our order was up I immediately went back and also ordered a side of waffles fries with nacho sauce because the burritos were small (I was expecting chipotle size and they were half as thick). When my order of fries came up it was the opposite response it was a BAG of fries (waffle fries I might add which are my fav) The burrito itself was really tasty. And the wheat wrap was great! I got the medium sauce on it and thought it was tasty with a small kick. Everyone else there got the mild and really liked it. The place was consistently busy while we were there so they must be doing something right. Now please understand. This is a fast food restaurant and it was pretty good eating it at 11:30 am. I can imagine it would be amazing at 2:00 am on the way home from a long night :)

Do not eat this food in your car! When I first moved here I was munching on a scrumptious taco and as I progressed I noticed that it was getting all over my car! Kinda messy, but very good. I always tell people that ETS is like glorified Taco Bell. That being said, I really love Taco Bell and am glad to live down the street from this place. I was told when I first moved here that this is one of the places where drunk people go to put grease in their stomach late at night. I'm pretty sure that's why this place is open 'til 5am on the weekends. The salsa on the tacos is spicy so watch out. Even the mild has a nice kick to it but really good flavor. I would highly recommend for those who love tasty, greasy tacos every once in a while.

Perfect place to go to eat less-than-mysterious food at four in the morning. Look forward to liquid poos the next day. But you were already expecting that from the twelve banana vodka shots you took earlier that night, right?

The drive thru here is pretty convenient, but make sure that you remember that their entire menu isn't on the drive thru menu at all. One of the best things about this place is the cookie you can buy, and the size that it is! One of the best cookies in Buffalo from what I have found out. The food here is pretty good, nothing too special or anything that stands out other than the cookie! The fajitas are pretty small for the price that you pay here. The food is what you want if you're sick of Jim's Steakout or any other fast food place. The lines are sometimes long, and can move slow depending on what crew is working that night it seems. I would try it out for yourself to see what you think, but nothing special to me, and you know me, I am pretty easy going on stars if you make me happy :)

I got the rice bowl supreme meal (with a side of fries & diet coke) - $10. The rice bowl was good - but nothing that great. Those with me were more impressed than I was. The waffle fries were good. I can only assume people are impressed when they come here for "drunk food." Not a bad place, just nothing great to me.

Just had 2 chicken supreme burritos, only to discover that BOTH were filled with grissle & bones - yuck! If you want the lowest possible quality food, this is the place for you. Absolutely disgusting!

I don't know how people don't love this place. I have never once had a bad experience her, and I go frequently. I got incredibly sick off Mighty Taco and didn't eat it for 2 years. I started taking the long drive here regularly and it is so worth it. When I tried Mighty again I couldn't understand why I ever liked it. I recommend the taco supreme, chicken quesadilla, or a steak sub all the way. They have a huge menu for a fast food joint. Lunch time is ridiculously busy but I get my food 10x faster with the long line than no line at Taco Bell. The drive-thru is great, saves you time. The drive-thru menu is limited, but if you call ahead you can order anything and pick it up via drive-thru. It is a great new location and a CLEAN place to eat. The staff is always friendly to me as well. Will be a life-long customer.

Always a reliable place to go after a late night out on the town. ETS refried black bean burritos are excellent and the portion size is generous as well. I recommend some hot sauce, since most of the food here is on the bland side. Waffle fries are a great item to have on the menu, but they really are not as good as I thought they would be...the frozen fry factor is definitely noticeable here. Nacho chips and cheese are large enough to share. The drive thru is great and always fast, but the menu is limited compared to what you can order inside. And besides, while inside you get free refills of your favorite fountain drink.....and yes, they have Loganberry!

I'm Mexican straight out of California, so I have a strong bias when it come to anything even remotely Mexican or lack thereof. Went here with the hubbs and we ordered just a quick bite: beef tacos. Nothing fancy. When we got our order, the meat was practically liquified and the hot sauce was of the watered down Taco Bell variety. Also, the cheese they threw in there was a slice of American cheese (cut in half). Seriously?! I don't understand how this place is always jumping. Do yourself a favor and just follow Lloyd's Taco Truck around.

  • Jennifer C.

In theory, all tacos should be delicious. This place is overpriced for what it is, and the 'guacamole' is offensive. I could eat tacos for a week for the price of a boring burrito. The subs aren't bad , but you can get better elsewhere. Not a fan at all-sorry, not sorry.

    (2)
  • Lucas B.

I can't understand the allure or the loyalty. There are things I like about ETS. Unfortunately, they don't outweigh the negatives or make it worth the cost. The food is good, just good. The subs are tasty, but so are most subs in Buffalo and ETS doesn't make the best. ETS has a great, unique hot sauce, called Diavlo...it's perfect to buy by the bottle and bring home with you. The burrito supremes are good, and they have been my standby when I go, but it's just gotten too expensive for fast food. I spent $14 for a combo meal the other day. Really?! That's an entre at a nicer restaurant, or 2 burritos at Chipotle, which are bigger, with more ingredients. What did I get at ETS? A small soda, too many chips and not enough cheese.

All right at the very best. I stopped here with my dad today looking for someplace really cheap, since I celebrated my birthday and we went to trattoria aroma on Thursday and got take out from Pizza Hut yesterday. So, my dad ordered a beef taco and bean taco, and I ordered a chicken burrito. My burrito was $4.00, so I expected it would be pretty big. No, it was big enough for somebody about 3 to 4 years younger than me. Okay, so I try it. It tasted all right, nothing special. My dad seemed to enjoy his tacos. Sorry elmwood taco and subs, but I'd go to mighty taco on Sheridan any day before coming all the way out here again. I hope to never come back.

Came here on a Saturday night around 3 am. Food took over 25 min to arrive, and I even asked about it. They told me that chicken fingers took more time to cook. When our number was finally called, the food was cold! We did not return it in fear of reprisal. Next time we will be heading to zonies.

  • Ryan E.

it's pretty good overall, but it has hits and misses. The subs are overpriced, 'nuff said. The burritos and tacos are alright, but kinda plain, but the prices are pretty good. The fajitas, now they rock your face. Get 'em hot and enjoy the beads of sweat on your forehead. The monster cookies are awesome! I love walking down elmwood with a cookie bigger than my face. It's clean, there's a drive-thru, thats all you need to know

ETS isn't necessarily Mexican, but it's good. I go through phases where I would rather be eating a taco or their fabulous waffle fries dipped in nacho cheese over jim's steakout. Let me explain; Jim's Steakout is an ordeal just about every time you go there after 1am. ETS is a different crowd. So it's like you're cheating on your best friend with your other best friend. You take what you can get until you get bored. I like variety. ETS has a bigger selection than Jims. You can even get something somewhat healthy from their menu and not spend a fortune. I used to swear by their Chicken Supreme tacos (and I still recommend them!) But, now that I no longer eat meat, I can still be happily satisfied when looking to quell my taco craving. Their bean taco is pretty yummy for $1.50 and they do have a 'veggie taco' but I prefer to not eat shredded lettuce and tomato wrapped in a tortilla only to wish I was eating some delicious chicken. The beans and cheese do the trick. One other thing you should know is that their hot sauce is HOT. If you're looking to burn your face off, get it hot. It's hit or miss though, and I haven't quite figured out why it isn't very consistent. Part of me thinks that when it's really late and the employees really want to mess with you, they'll do it. I've seen it happen on special occasions where my jerk-off friend ordered their taco mild because they didn't want it hot and BAM! Blasted with super hot tacos! haha! Watch out! Try those Waffle fries with cheese...or the Nachos supreme, but don't forget about the ginormous thumbprint cookie that's about $3. Can you eat all that? I sure can't. Mmmmmmm....TACOS!

  • Alisha C.

I Love the way they make tacos!! They will lay a slice of white American cheese on the bottom of a hard taco shell and it is genius!!! Way better than the traditional sprinkling of the cheese on top of the taco!! Love this place awesome rice bowls too!! My new fav taco spot!!

    (4)
  • Timothy M.

Pros: Cheap, and it tastes okay when inebriated. Bathroom trips shortly thereafter aren't nearly as dramatic as Mighty Taco and Taco Bell. Cons: American cheese on a taco. Therein lies the problem. Seriously, who in their right mind would put American cheese on a taco???

    (2)
  • Kristen T.

patronized ETS' drive thru this past week while in a rush doing errands. ordered my usual two tacos, mild (because their 'recipe' can be a bit of an overkill, and in all the wrong ways) with double cheese (to try to kill some of the bitter peppercorn flavor that is always present in their ground beef), and couldn't even finish beyond half of one of these tacos. first, there was a ridiculous amount of meat on the shell, making it incredibly greasy and overwhelms the entire concoction. furthermore, the ground beef this time around was so OVERLY seasoned with peppercorns, it was bitter and inedible. i don't understand where this idea that peppercorns (or whatever that is in the recipe that resembles them) equals mexican seasoning for a taco...i'm flummoxed. this isn't really a 'traditional' take on a mexican staple, its more a weird buffalo rendering of something meant to be a taco that tastes more like your Italian granny made it...

I was a manager at this place back in the mid 90's and I eat there. That should speak volumes about how clean the kitchen is and the quality of food. There is sincerely nothing I don't love about this place. Seems like the majority of bad reviews are from people with one time bad experiences. I'm not saying any paying customer should ever have a bad experience but it is ultimately fast food made by college kids so I expect an occasional hiccup. If you had a bad experience do yourself a favor and try this place again. Moderately priced delicious food. Love the taco meat and hot sauce. Chimichangas are also off the chart.

I ate at this place ONCE when they were still on the corner of Elmwood and Delevan and was terribly unimpressed. So much so that I never went back even once. I don't get the popularity, but based on the success of Mike's, I'm guessing it has to do with cheap meat based meals and not quality.

  • Karlie B.

I have concluded many a nights at ETS and the majority of them have been without any complaints. I can't speak for the subs there, but the black bean tacos are decent. Although, I would advise against the refried bean taco. The waffle fries are a nice addition too, if you're feeling extra saucy.

Taco 'Bout Good Food! I cant say enough about Elmwood Taco & Subs. They have the bestest barritos there I evr had in a taco store. And guacamole! Its very green, but it tastes just like a summer in avocado land! They give you free plastic spoons and stuff too! The lady there is really nice and will buzz you into the bathroom anytime you need to be buzzed. Unfortunately, the first time I went, I didnt know you had to be buzzed, so I stood there, and stood there and yelled at an empty bathroom until I nearly had an accident. I think they laughed at me a little. I would of. PROS: The best tacos in town!!! CONS: One crazy guy on staff. You figure out who.

  • D L.

I don't get it. I was totally underwhelmed. I ordered two beef tacos (one soft one hard) and they were both greasy and I didn't like the seasoning. But the whole menu was weird, kind of all over the place. Honeslty taco bell is probably tasitier option (and I'm not a big taco bell fan). I thought it would be a lot better.

I actually liked this place fine. I've only had their "mexican" stuff so I can't speak to the other stuff. It's a nice college neighborhood taco shop type of place, always clean, nice service, reasonable prices. You can always stop in there to get your taco fix.

While visiting friends in Buffalo they brought me here twice. When I hear the name I wasn't sure what to expect. We were in during a slow time of the afternoon and the owner waited on us. She explained how to order and made me a burrito that was exceptional. Can't wait to go back!

I have a feeling this is going to be the first of many 3-star reviews of restaurants in Buffalo. This place had a shockingly nice interior - a flat screen monitor built into the menu was the first I'd ever seen. The food though is not too mentionable though. I had the chicken burrito and the beef taco and both had "sub" like qualities to it as they add lettuce and tomato to a good number of their menu items. But for the low price, can't really bash on it.

Taco pizza!!! Soft shell beef tacos with hot sauce....awesome sauce!!!

  • Melissa C.

This review is for the taco salad only. The choices for taco salad are chicken and beef. I opted for the healthier option of chicken, italian dressing, and mild salsa. The salads come in a taco shell which I loved. The salsa was also enough for my salad, so I had no need for my Italian dressing. However, the portions were small and there wasn't enough lettuce in the mix. Also, they use primarily iceberg lettuce which has absolutely no nutritional value. Aside from the location I'd probably opt to go elsewhere for a quick meal

I've lived in Buffalo my whole life and never would I say that Might Taco is better than ETS. Plus they just opened up an awesome new location (about 2 feet from the old one) with a drive through and its open until like 4am on weekends. The tacos are awesome...although spicey (beware of the sauce) as is their guac, and their subs are better than Jims in my opinion (I think someones going to hunt me down for that comment). Bottom line...this place is awesome! Probably one of the first things I do when I come home to visit.

best burritos in buffalo, which isn't saying too much, but miles better than awful mighty taco. great location on cool elmwood, nice place to walk to in the summer, enjoy a burrito and the AC and keep walking down elmwood.

Meh. I've yet to find anything here (besides the chocolate chip cookies) that isn't just as good or better at Jim's Steakout across the street. As such, I don't understand all the ETS hype. Just another sub shop serving up decent sandwiches, nothing out of the ordinary.
